A quick how to for anyone wanting to make their own dried petal confetti 🌸 🌸 Wait until your flowers are out and at their fullest (make sure the water in your vase is clean, otherwise the flowers may die before they come out to their fullest potential) 🌸 Pick the petals one by one from the base of the flower so you get the whole petal, not broken bits. 🌸 Pop them in a large tupperware box, no lid. 🌸 Put the box in the airing cupboard and leave for 1- 2 weeks. 🌸 Ta Da 🌟 There are many ways to dry petals, the above method is the one I've found the most simple and effective. Note - not all petals dry well. Waxy flowers like Tulips do not tend to work. The secrets out... I'm not a fan of Valentines day 😳 There will not be any Valentines bouquets available to order this year from The Meadow Box. There are many reasons, here are just a few....❤ Price - I find it disheartening to have to charge so much more for one day - Unfortunately wholesale prices go crazy during Valentines, and therefore florists have to charge accordingly to account for this 🌿 Supermarkets - It is so hard to go up against the supermarket giants who have bouquets on mass at a low cost in the run up to the big day. On the most part, flowers are loss leaders for supermarkets - they are sold at a low price (and a loss) to encourage customers in, where customers will then buy other, more profitable products, which counteracts any loss 🌿 Sustainability - There are some lovely spring flowers starting to appear in February in the UK, however the classic red rose is not one of them. These have to be imported from overseas, which is something as a business I'm trying to hold back from doing 🌿 I'm excited to share an alternative gift for Valentines day in the next couple of days,, keep your eyes peeled! When flower arrangements are serving a different purpose later in the day I'm ready to jump in and make the changes required - super quick and with minimal fuss. It's that time of year again... The heat is on ☀️ Cut flowers do not like the heat, to keep your flowers fresh in this gorgeous weather... 🌿 Keep them out of direct sunlight. They look beautiful on windowsills, but that heat will make them wilt quickly 🌷 🌿 Cut a cm or 2 off the stems regularly to keep the stem capillaries open, this makes them better at absorbing water ✂️ 🌿 Keep that water clean! Bacteria in warm water will make those flowers very unhappy. 🌿 Important information 🌿 Happy Saturday to all my lovely customers and new followers 🌞 I've had lots of enquiries recently for fresh flowers bouquets, so I thought I'd just pop a post up to confirm times 😁 Last year I made the decision to change my fresh flower deliveries to late April - late October, this is the British flower growing season 🌷🌻 I would absolutley love to do flower deliveries all year round, however, I'm really passionate about making my business as sustainable as possible - in this case by cutting my carbon footprint by importing less flowers 👣 🌏 🛩 I do still have to use some flowers from overseas for large events that fall outside growing season (weddings, funerals, valentines day, mothers day etc), but this is something I have plans to change in future. Im learning new things with each week when it comes to running a sustainable business ♻️ In order to push things in the right direction for The Meadow Box, I'm trying to challenge and undo years of what counts as 'the norm' in floristry. We've been spoilt for choice - but with lots of implications.
